The run-up to January 2012

Getting ready to dive back into another River of Small Stones is wonderful to contemplate.

Last January was the first time I took part in this endeavour when I honoured my brother who died December 17, 2010. The idea of memorializing him by writing a small stone every day in January 2011 came to me while I was planning his physical memorial here in Canada. Until I actually started doing it, accompanying each small stone with a tiny photo that somehow related to him or the stone, I had no idea how helpful I would find the process in my attempt to grieve and begin to heal.

At the end of January, the poets involved in that river were asked to submit some of their poems to those who initiated the project, Fiona Robyn and her then fiancĂ©e, Kaspalita(they've since married). We were also asked, if we were so inclined, to send any thoughts we might have about what it meant to us to take part so they could assemble a book from some of the submissions.

Pay Attention:A River of Stones, I am thrilled to say contains a quote of mine and one of my small stones, remembering my brother Bill.

When Fiona announced there would be another river of small stones in July, I was glad to be a part of that one also, and so it's probably no surprise that I'm really looking forward to the second annual January river, announced just recently. As I wrote to Fiona, I am busy trying to figure out how to promote this upcoming river - but for now,  the link below will take you to the web-page with all the details, if you're interested. As might be expected, I highly recommend the experience.
